An Oil for Neck and Shoulders

Một dầu cho cổ vai gáy

処方

Neck and shoulders are the first to tense up from screen work. This piece records the massage oil formula Lê Mai uses for this region, with safe essential oil ratios for daily use.

Neck and shoulders · muscle and circulation

The trapezius and levator scapulae are the two main muscles of the neck-shoulder region. When sitting long with the head tilted forward, these muscles must hold the head's weight. Over time, trigger points develop, with pain radiating to either side of the head.

Massage does not treat the cause, but it reduces trigger points and increases local circulation. Massage oil lets the fingers glide smoothly over the skin without pulling.

Carrier · jojoba penetrates deeply

Jojoba is chosen as the main carrier because it is a wax ester, not a triglyceride. It is similar to natural sebum, penetrates deeply through the epidermis, carrying essential oils to the layers below.

Unlike olive or sweet almond, which stay on the surface, jojoba dries quickly and leaves no greasy feel after massage. Suitable for use before work or during a lunch break.

Eucalyptus, peppermint, holy basil

Three main essential oils for this formula:

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) contains 70-85% 1,8-cineole. It reduces local muscle pain and opens circulation. The scent is strong, diffusing through surrounding air.

Peppermint (Mentha piperita) contains 35-50% menthol. A cool sensation on application, activating TRP receptors that reduce pain perception. Not for pregnant women or children under six.

Holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) contains eugenol and linalool. Calms the nervous system, eases stress-related muscle tension. Adds a warm note to balance the cooling peppermint.

2% dilution · safe for daily use

30ml formula:

Jojoba 28.5ml. Eucalyptus 9 drops (0.3ml). Peppermint 6 drops (0.2ml). Holy basil 3 drops (0.1ml). Vitamin E 0.5ml.

Total essential oil ratio is 2%, enough for the pain-relief effect without causing irritation in daily use. Shake well, let stand 24 hours for the oils to distribute evenly before first use.

How to apply and stay warm afterwards

Pour a palm-sized amount (5-7 drops) onto one hand. Rub palms together to warm the oil to 37°C. Place on the nape.

Start from the hairline downward, sliding along the trapezius. Each stroke 5-10 repetitions, moderate pressure, not painful. Then slide across the shoulders from inside out.

Massage 5-10 minutes. Wrap a warm towel around the neck for 10 minutes afterwards to let the oil penetrate deeper and increase circulation. Avoid wind exposure immediately after.

One carrier. Three essential oils. Two percent.

No substitute for rest. No substitute for proper posture. Only a way to ease the shoulders, a little.
